About
Thompson was close friends with Ulysses S. Grant named Thompson the Governor of the Idaho Territory. Later, Thompson became mayor of Portland. He is responsible for the elk statue in the middle of SW Main in the Plaza Blocks. Not surprisingly, the statue is known as the Thompson Elk.
